China's coal imports continued to see strong year-on-year growth yet slightly declined from the preceding month, according to the latest customs data released on June 7.
The country imported a total of 39.58 million tonnes of coal in May, rising 92.63% or 19.04 million tonnes on the year but retreating 2.68% or 1.09 million tonnes compared with the previous month, according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC).
Value of the imports totaled $4.61 billion in May, rising 35.67% year on year but down 7.61% month on month. Sxcoal calculated the average import price at $116.51/t, falling $48.92/t year on year and $6.21/t month on month.
China imported a total of 182.06 million tonnes of coal in January-May, up 89.6% on the year. The imports value was $23.17 billion, up 49.5% on the year, the GAC data showed.
