China's steel products imports were registered at 3.13 million tonnes during January-May 2023, a year-on-year slump of 37.1%, according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs on June 7.
The import amount came in at $5.41 billion during the first five months, down 29.1% on the year. The average import price was calculated at $1,728.5/t, up 12.8% year on year.
In May, China imported 631,000 tonnes of steel products, up 7.9% year on year but down 21.7% month on month.
The total imports were worth $1.1 billion, up 6% year on year but down 18.2% month on month, with the average import price at $1,737.2/t, down 1.8% year on year but up 4.5% month on month.
During the first five months, China imported 480 million tonnes of iron ore and concentrates, up 7.7% year on year. Import amounts were $55.37 billion, down 4.6% year on year, with the average import price at $115.2/t, which was down 11.4% from a year ago.
In May, China imported 96.18 million tonnes of iron ore and concentrates, up 4% year on year and 6.3% month on month. Imports were worth $11.24 billion, 12.5% lower than a year ago but up 3.1% month on month. Import price was down 15.8% on the year and 3% on the month to $116.9/t.
