Manzhouli border port saw its coal imports surge so far this year with the continuous deepening of China's Belt and Road Initiative, according to local railway authority.
The port imported 2.20 million tonnes of coal so far this year, a year-on-year increase of 169.3%, and intakes of metal ore stood at 1.95 million tonnes, up 69.4%, China Railway Harbin Group said.
Since the beginning of this year, Harbin Railway has been continuously improving the capacity of major domestic border stations such as Manzhouli, Suifenhe, and Tongjiangbei and their relevant routes and contributing to the quality of China-Europe freight train services. As of June 5, the import and export volume of the railway company has exceeded 12 million tonnes.
In the year leading up to June 5, Manzhouli railway station handled 8.212 million tonnes of imported and exported goods, marking a year-on-year increase of 46.2%.
At the Suifenhe station, intakes reached 3.51 million tonnes and the exports were 65,000 tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 2.3% and 20.1% respectively. Shipments through the Tongjiangbei station reached 1.01 million tonnes.
