A China-Europe (Central Asia) train carrying 3,100 tonnes of Mongolian coal arrived at Caofeidian port in Tangshan city, Hebei province on June 11, China News Service reported.
It is said to be the first such train traveling from Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, to Caofeidian port area in northern China.
The train, loaded with 98 sets of 20-foot open-top container wagons, has run more than 1,700 kilometers during about 10 days, entering China through the Erenhot railway port.
Caofeidian port area is the largest coal collection and distribution center in the world, and the opening of the direct train will further improve customs clearance efficiency and reduce freight costs for Mongolian coal imports, said Zheng Youdong, head of Caofeidian district government.
It will also play an active role in further refining the sea-rail combined transport system in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and increasing the cargo transport channels from Ulaanbaatar to Caofeidian, he added.
Caofeidian, one of the four major areas for the China (Hebei) Pilot Free Trade Zone, has launched many international freight trains and is increasingly becoming a regional logistics hub and resource allocation center connecting Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe.
