China's production of coke, crude steel, pig iron and finished steel product all registered year-on-year increases during January-May this year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on June 15.
China produced 200 million tonnes of coke during the first five months, rising 2.6% year on year. The output in May stood at 41.50 million tonnes, down 0.7% year on year but rising 0.5% from the previous month. Daily coke production stood at 1.34 million tonnes in May, falling 2.7% on the month, data showed.
Crude steel output stood at 440 million tonnes over January-May, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%. The May figure came in at 90.12 million tonnes, down 7.3% year on year and falling 2.7% from the previous month. The daily output averaged 2.91 million tonnes last month, falling 5.9% from April.
The production of pig iron was 370 million tonnes during the first five months, rising 3.2% from a year ago. Production in May was registered at 77 million tonnes, down 4.8% year on year and falling 1.1% from the previous month. The average output in May was 2.48 million tonnes, down 4.8% from the previous month.
Finished steel production climbed 3.2% year on year to 560 million tonnes over January-May. Output in May stood at 120 million tonnes, 1.3% lower from a year ago and 1.2% lower than the previous month. The figure put the average daily output to 3.82 million tonnes, a sequential decrease of 4.4%, NBS data showed.
