A transportation accident occurred in the auxiliary inclined shaft of the Huangjiagou coal mine in Luliang of Shanxi on June 15, causing three deaths, one serious injury, and several minor injuries, according to local media.
The mine, owned by state-run China Coal Energy Co., Ltd, has been asked to suspend production for rectification. It has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes and mainly produces coking coal for steel production.
The on-site emergency rescue has ended, and the follow-up work is in full swing.
Sxcoal can't immediately confirm how long the suspension may last or whether adjacent mines would also be asked to strengthen safety inspections.
June is the national work safety month in China. The central and local government safety and relevant departments have called on coal and other mining enterprises to strengthen safety awareness, especially to avoid flooding accidents in the summer season.
