Coal output in the United States was estimated at 11.27 million short tons (10.22 million tonnes) over the week ending June 3, up 0.91% week on week and 3.42% year on year, showed data from Energy Information Administration on June 8.
Coal production in Wyoming and Montana combined was estimated at 4.97 million short tons, rising 0.77% from a week ago but down 2.95% from a year ago.
Illinois's coal output was estimated at 842,200 short tons, up 3.84% from the week prior and 14.07% from the year prior, while Appalachian coal production was estimated at 3.15 million short tons, increasing 2.2% from a week ago and 5.58% on the year.
Over the first 22 weeks of 2023, US coal output totaled 252 million short tons, up 0.5% from 250 million short tons a year ago.
U.S. rail coal shipments were 64,548 rail cars, increasing 1,328 from a week ago and 611 from a year ago. The year-to-date rail coal shipments totaled 1.44 million rail cars, up 1.5% year on year.
