China exported 36.67 million tonnes of steel products during January-May, surging 40.9% compared with the preceding year, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on June 7.
The total exports were amounted to $41.6 billion, up 15.1% year on year, which put the average export price to 1,143.7 yuan/t, 18.6% lower year on year.
In May, the country exported 8.36 million tonnes of finished steel, rising 5.3% from a month ago and 7.7% on the year, data showed.
Export values totaled $7.71 billion in May, falling 28% year on year and 11.5% on the month, with the averaged export price calculated at $922.25/t, down 33.1% from a year earlier and 16% from April.
