China Feb power consumption up 11% on yr

China's electricity consumption increased 11% year on year to 695 TWh in February, showed data from the National Energy Administration on March 14.


Specifically, for non-residential segment, the primary industries – mainly the agricultural sector — consumed 8.4 TWh of electricity, up 8.6% from a year earlier. The secondary industries – mainly the industrial sector – used 452.3TWh, up 19.7% year on year, and the tertiary industries – mainly the service sector – registered a 4.4% rise to 123.5 TWh.


Residential power usage decreased 9.2% on the year to 110.8 TWh in February.


During the first two months of 2023, China's power usage rose 2.3% to 1,383.4 TWh. Consumption by primary, secondary and tertiary industries was respectively at 17.4 TWh (+6.2% YoY), 870.6 TWh (+2.9% YoY) and 248.5 TWh (-0.2% YoY).


Power utilization by residential sector in January-February rose 2.7% to 246.9 TWh.
