China's production of coke, crude steel, pig iron and finished steel product all registered year-on-year increase during January-February this year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on March 15.
China produced 77.63 million tonnes of coke during the first two months, rising 3.2% year on year, with the growth accelerating 4.2 percentage points compared with December 2022. The daily coke production was calculated at 1.32 million tonnes during the period, up 4.6% from December.
Crude steel output stood at 168.7 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%, which compared to a 9.8% yearly fall in December. The average daily crude steel output was 2.86 million tonnes over the first two months, up 13.8% from December last year.
The production of pig iron was 144.26 million tonnes, rising 7.3% from a year ago, which shifted from a 4.6% fall registered in December. Daily production averaged 2.45 million tonnes, up 9.8% from December last year.
Finished steel production climbed 3.6% year on year to 206.23 million tonnes over January-February, compared with a 2.6% fall in December 2022. The figure put the average daily output to 3.50 million tonnes, a decrease of 3.2% from December last year, NBS data showed.
