Vietnam is forecasted to produce and import 284.5 TWh of electricity this year, 16 TWh or 6% more than 2022, local mediate reported.
The forecast is also 11.3%, or 29 TWh greater than 2021.
The prediction is based on the nation's legislative body approving a 6.5% GDP growth and a planned total supply of nearly 251.3 TWh to residents this year, which increases nearly 9 TWh from last year.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has instructed the Vietnam Electricity company to set up suitable operating procedures and utilize multiple energy sources, including coal, gas and renewables, to ensure sufficient supply.
Approximately 57.9 million tonnes of coal is anticipated to be supplied in 2023, with 44.7 million tonnes set to be domestically produced and 13.2 million tonnes imported, the ministry's Department of Oil, Gas, and Coal said.
By the end of 2022, Vietnam's cumulative power generation capacity was roughly 77.8 GW, 1.4 GW more than 2021. Renewable energy was reported to make up 26.4%, or 20.17 GW, of the total, the ministry said.
