Russia's seaborne coal exports totaled 11.83 million tonnes in February 2023, retreating 8.42% from the preceding month and marking the fourth straight month of decline, according to Kpler's cargo-tracking data.
The volume was also 7.67% lower compared with the year-ago level, data showed.
Shipments to Asia decreased 2.54% from the preceding month and fell 4.67% year on year to 8.51 million tonnes in February, representing 72% of the country's total exports.
Exports to China's mainland came in at 3.64 million tonnes, down 23.87% month on month yet still 37.65% higher from a year ago.
South Korea outpaced India to be the second-largest buyer in Asia, with shipment at 1.85 million tonnes in February, surging 57.17% from the preceding month and rising 11.95% from a year ago.
Exports to India stood at 1.25 million tonnes, falling 11.14% from the preceding month yet rising 21.97% from a year ago, data showed.
In February, Russia exported 1.67 million tonnes of seaborne coal to Europe, down 19.69% and 48.30% respectively from the preceding month and the year-ago level and representing 14.08% of the total.
Russian coal exports to transcontinental Turkey stood at 1.47 million tonnes in February, falling 25.16% month on month yet surging 204.33% year on year, data showed.
Over January-February, Russia's total seaborne coal exports were 24.75 million tonnes, inching up 0.26% year on year.
