Northwestern China's Shaanxi province shipped 463 million tonnes of coal last year, accounting for 62% of its annual production and 64% of sales, local media reported.
A total of 241 million tonnes were shipped to 26 provinces of the country by railway last year, and Haoji railway delivered 24% of its total rail shipments.
The 1,800km Haoji line started commissioning in 2019, with its annual coal shipments rising to 57.92 million tonnes in 2022, compared with 20.08 million tonnes in 2020. It targets to ship over 70 million tonnes this year.
Since Haoji came online, Shaanxi has been able to send its coal shipments to central provinces of Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi as fast as one day.
Shaanxi is the second largest coal producer in China. Its coal output exceeded 700 million tonnes in 2021 and increased 5.4% from the previous year in 2022 to 746 million tonnes, accounting for 16.8% of the country's total, playing a significant role in the national energy security.
