Northwestern China's Shaanxi, one of the country's top three coal-producing provinces, is expected to supply 16.15 million tonnes of coal to southwestern China's Chongqing municipality in 2023, which is roughly 54% of the total expected demand by the coal-fired power plants in the city, Chongqing Daily reported.
Shaanxi expected to deliver 16.50 million tonnes of coal to Chongqing in 2022, with power coal no less than 14 million tonnes, while the actual coal shipments were registered at 17.98 million tonnes last year, hitting a record high and rising 13.2% year on year, data showed.
During the peak demand months over July and August last year, Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd registered a 39.9% year-on-year surge in coal supplies to Chongqing, at 2.51 million tonnes. The company also supplied additionally 426,000 tonnes of coal in total over September-November after the city announced a 2-million-tonne supply gap for winter use.
Shaanxi also plans to transmit no less than 1.2 TWh of electricity to Chongqing in 2023, up from 0.54 TWh in 2022.
