Wari railway, a key channel to ship coal from Shanxi province to eastern provinces in China, kicked off spring maintenance on March 16, state media reported, citing operator CR Taiyuan Group.

The railway will undergo maintenance three hours each day and last until April 9, according to China News Service.

The 1,260-km railway, connecting Watang town in Shanxi with Rizhao port in Shandong province, opened to traffic on December 30, 2014 after four and a half years of construction. Interconnecting with 7 major rail lines in China, it is another major coal-dedicated rail line after Daqin.

In 2022, its coal shipments exceeded 100 million tonnes for the first time.

CR Taiyuan also started maintenance in another two rail lines – Caoxi and Houxi. Daqin line is scheduled to undergo maintenance from Apr 6 to May 5.
