One coal mine run by the listed Inner Mongolia Yitai Coal Co., Ltd was approved by the local energy bureau to expand capacity from 10 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 12 Mtpa, the company said in an announcement on March 8.
The mine named Talahao is located in the Dongsheng coalfield of the leading coal-producing city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia, Sxcoal learned.
Talahao coal mine has been included in the list for the national supply guarantee since 2021. It was reported the capacity of the mine was approved by the local energy bureau to expand to 10 Mtpa from 6 Mtpa in 2021.
Ordos churned out 722 million tonnes of coal in 2022, rising 113 million tonnes or 18.6% year on year. The city sold 692 million tonnes of coal, up 122 million tonnes or 21.35% from a year ago, according to the latest data from China National Coal Association.
