Key power plants in central China's Hubei province received 15.89 million tonnes of coal from other provinces in the first quarter of 2023, surging 1.83 million tonnes or 13% year on year, showed data from the local development and reform commission.
Coal consumption at key power utilities increased 10.1% or 1.55 million tonnes from a year ago to 16.89 million tonnes in the month, data showed.
In March, about 5.32 million tonnes of coal arrived power plants in Hubei, surging 1.43 million tonnes or 36.9% year on year, and plants consumed 5.57 million tonnes of coal, up 33.7% or 1.4 million tonnes.
By the end of March, these plants still held 4.38 million tonnes of coal in stocks, down 76,000 tonnes.
