Turkey's coal imports in March soared 57.62% from a year ago and 48.35% from February, hitting the highest level in three months, official data showed.
Turkey imported 3.98 million tonnes of coal in March, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of imports rose 4.17% year on year to $564 million, while climbing 17.49% from February.
That put the average import price at $141.63/t in March, down 33.9% year on year and 20.8% month on month.
In the first quarter, Turkey imported 9.59 million tonnes of coal, up 18.62% year on year. The value of imports rose 4.22% to $1.59 billion.
Breaking down by types of coal, Turkey's imports of bituminous coal surged 82.01% year on year and 37.27% month on month to 3.33 million tonnes in March. The value of bituminous coal imports gained 20.49% versus last year but dropped 8.58% from February to $374 million.
Turkey's coking coal imports amounted to 0.61 million tonnes, up 1.76% year on year but nearly doubled from February. Anthracite coal imports declined 51.02% on the year but gained 14.05% on the month to 50,500 tonnes.
Turkey's imports of coke amounted to 25,700 tonnes in March, down 77.56% year on year but up 25.82% month on month. The value of coke imports slumped 83.51% on the year but rose 49.38% from February to $9.57 million.
