Coal India Ltd, India's biggest coal miner, produced 57.6 million tonnes of coal in April, up 7.7% from a year earlier but down 31.02% from March, the company said.
Production in April 2022 was 53.47 million tonnes. Output hit 83.5 million tonnes in March, the highest in three years.
Coal sales in April rose 8.7% year on year to 62.4 million tonnes but fell 2.8% from 64.2 million tonnes in March.
For the fiscal year ending March 2023, production climbed 12.9% to 703 million tonnes and sales gained 4.96% to 695 million tonnes.
In April, the company's shipments to the power sector totaled 50.6 million tonnes, up 2.6% from the same period last year. By end-April, stockpiles at coal-fired power plants across the nation totaled 33.8 million tonnes, surging 62% from the year-ago level.
By end-April, stocks at mines under Coal India rose 13% on the year to 64.6 million tonnes, compared with 69.5 million tonnes at the beginning of the month.
