Global crude steel production down 1% on yr in Feb, WSA

Global crude steel production fell 1% from a year ago to 142 million tonnes in February, showed data from the World Steel Association (WSA).


In February, the top ten crude steel producers were China, India, Japan, the U.S., Russia, South Korea, Germany, Brazil, Iran and Turkey.



China churned out about 80.1 million tonnes of crude steel in the month, up 5.6% year on year, and India's output ticked down by 1% year on year to 10 million tonnes.


Japan saw a year-on-year fall of 5.3% in its crude steel output to 6.9 million tonnes in February. The output of the U.S. decreased 5.3% on the year to 6 million tonnes.


In the month, crude steel output in Russia is estimated to fall 8.6% from a year ago to 5.6 million tonnes. Crude steel output of South Korea ticked up 1.1% to 5.2 million tonnes, while that of Germany declined 6.9% to 3 million tonnes, data showed.


Production from Brazil decreased 6.7% year on year to 2.5 million tonnes, while that of Iran jumped 14.6% to 2.4 million tonnes. Crude steel production of Turkey declined 28.9% on the year to 2.1 million tonnes.


In January-February, crude steel output worldwide dipped 0.8% to 298 million tonnes.
