The railway freight volume between China and Russia soared 85% year on year to reach 26.9 million tonnes in the first two months of 2023, according to the Russian Railways (RZD), presenting a strong growth for the whole year.
Sergey Mozhayev, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, said that the coal exports of Russia to the Asia-Pacific region in 2022 were slightly more than 140 million tonnes, and the exports were expected to increase slightly in 2023.
Nikolai Shulginov, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, said that the coal production in Russia in 2022 was at the same level as before the outbreak of the epidemic in 2019, and it was expected to remain at the same level in 2023.
The total cargo turnover of border ports reached 3.3 million tonnes in January-February, with the export of Russian goods almost doubled to 2.9 million tonnes, the consulate general of Russia said early this month.
The Russian goods exported through the Beigalisk-Manzhouli railway port are mainly iron ore, steel sheets, fertilizers, food and coal. The coal shipments have increased nearly three times to nearly 200 wagons per day in the period.
According to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, the trade volume between Russia and China increased 25.9% in January-February, reaching $33.66 billion. Previously, the leaders of the two countries set a goal to double the trade volume between the two countries from $100 billion to $200 billion by 2024.
China's coal imports from Russia totaled 14.8 million tonnes in January-February, soaring 127.1% from the same period last year, customs data showed.
