Crude steel production in Japan reached 6.91 million tonnes in February 2023, down 4.3% month on month and 5.3% year on year, according to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation.
The production of ordinary steel was 5.41 million tonnes, down 3.4% month on month and 4.6% year on year; that of special steel was 1.5 million tonnes, down 7.2% MoM and 7.9 % YoY.
In February, Japan's blast furnace steel production reached 5.05 million tonnes, down 7% MoM and 5.6% YoY; electric furnace steel production was 1.86 million tonnes, up 4% MoM yet dowsn 4.5% YoY.
The production of hot rolled coils in Japan was 2.73 million tonnes in the same month, down 7.2% MoM and 7.6% YoY; H-beam steel production was 262,000 tonnes, down 6.8% MoM and 1.7% YoY.
The production of pig iron was 4.98 million tonnes last month, down 6.4% MoM and 4.8% YoY.
In January-February 2023, Japan's cumulative crude steel production was 14.13 million tonnes, down 6.1% from the year prior; production of pig iron was 10.31 million tonnes, a 6.6% fall.
