China imported 1.23 million tonnes of steel products during January-February, falling 44.2% year on year, customs data showed.
Imports amounts totaled $2.15 billion during the first two months, 33.9% lower compared with the preceding year. The average import price was calculated at $1,742.5/t, up 18.4% year on year, according to the General Administration of Customs.
In 2022, a total of 10.57 million tonnes of steel products were imported, a year-on-year decrease of 25.9%; the import value was $17.09 billion, down 8.8%; the average import price was $1,617.3/t, rising 23.2% from a year ago.
China imported 194.20 million tonnes of iron ore and its concentrate during the first two months, increasing 7.3% from a year ago. The import value was $20.64 billion, down 5.4% year on year. Based on this, the average import price was estimated at $106.3/t, a year-on-year decrease of 11.9%.
China imported 1.12 billion tonnes of iron ore in 2022, a 1.5% fall from a year ago. The imports were worth $128.10 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 29.7%, putting the average import price at $115.7/t, down 28.6%.
