Australia's coal exports were worth A$8.15 billion in April, falling 32.77% from a year ago and 18.48% compared with the month-ago level. The value of coal shipments to China's mainland still registered a month-on-month increase, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Coal exports to Japan were A$2.37 billion, a month-on-month decrease of 35.28% and a year-on-year decrease of 44.89%, accounting for 29% of Australia's total coal exports; coal exports to China's Taiwan were A$1.152 billion, down 0.78% on the month but up 6.90% on the year; and coal exports to India were A$1.138 billion, declining 24.55% month on month and 57.44% year on year.
Coal exports to South Korea were worth A$865 million in April, a sequential decrease of 11.25% and yearly fall of 14.44%. Exports to China's mainland were A$844 million, rising 24.40% from the month-ago level and compared with zero in the same period last year.
From January to April in 2023, Australia's coal exports totaled A$37.339 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 9.56%.
Among them, the export value of coal to Japan was A$14.45 billion, up 6.11% year on year; the export value to China's mainland was A$1.991 billion.
