India is pondering a recommendation to impose countervailing duty on steel imports from China, said Vivek Johri, chairman of the board of indirect taxes and customs, on Jun 16.
"Recommendation has come from Directorate General of Trade Remedies and it is still under examination, we haven't taken a final decision," Johri said.
India's finished steel purchases from China touched a five-year high in April, and the country's overall imports of the alloy reached a four-year high.
