Nineteen trains loaded with coal bound for Australia's flagship export hub Newcastle were halted after a protester suspended herself off of tall poles over rail tracks on June 19 as part the co-ordinated response to Australia's destruction of the global climate.
The Newcastle port is viewed as the largest coal port in the world, exporting an estimated 136 million tonnes of coal in 2022.
Rail line in Kooragang, near the port of Newcastle in New South Wales, was partially halted for more than four hours from 7:00 am local time due to the protest, the Australian Rail Track Corp., responsible for managing the network, confirmed the disruption.
Apart from this, two additional protests also occurred same day near the Port of Melbourne and Port of Brisbane for the same reason, according to local media.
