Canada's coal exports reached 2.85 million tonnes in February, down 8.41% year on year and 5.37% month on month, official statistics showed.
Japan was Canada's largest coal export destination in February, at 1.04 million tonnes, up 6.34% on the year and 9.64% on the month. This is followed by China, at 889,400 tonnes, surging 70.19% from the year prior and 46.81% from January.
Exports to South Korea were 468,700 tonnes, down 5.47% year on year but up 12.91% on the month.
The export value in February fell 11.29% on the year and 2.11% on the month to $975 million.
In January-February, Canada's coal exports totaled 5.86 million tonnes, up 5.71% from the same period last year, and export value dipped 1.96% on the year to $1.97 billion.
