Iron ore exports to China from Australia's Port Hedland rose 2.3% from a year earlier to 40.41 million tonnes in March, according to the Pilbara Ports Authority.
It was also up 18.79% from February. The shipments to China accounted for 88% of the port's total iron ore exports that month.
Port Hedland is used by three of the world's top four iron ore miners - BHP Group, Fortescue Metals Group and Roy Hill.
In March, Port Hedland's total iron ore exports fell 1.6% on the year to 45.76 million tonnes, which was 17.91% higher than in February.
Total exports in the first three months of the year were down 1.02% year on year at 133 million tonnes. Shipments to China rose 2.03% to 116 million tonnes, accounting for 87% of the total.
