Northern China's Inner Mongolia produced 198 million tonnes of raw coal in the first two months of 2023, up 1.9% year on year, showed the latest data from the local statistics bureau.
This means the region's raw coal production averaged 3.35 million tonnes each day during this period, almost flat from the level in November and December last year.
February alone saw the production jumped 17.0% on the year to 102.89 million tonnes, the data showed.
Three major bases in the region – Ordos, Xilingol and Hulun buir – saw higher year-on-year growths compared with December 2022.
Ordos's production rose 2.3% to 129 million tonnes in January-February, with the growth swinging to positive from a negative 7.3% in December 2022; Xilingol produced 22.23 million tones, down 0.7%, compared with a 1.4% fall; Hulun buir's production totaled 19.16 million tonnes, up 7%, from a 7.2% fall.
Inner Mongolia targets to produce 1.25 billion tonnes of coal during 2023. That is roughly 7% higher compared with the year-ago level of 1.17 billion tonnes.
