India produced 185 million tonnes of coal and lignite in January-February, up 9.6% year on year, data from the Ministry of Coal showed.
State-owned Coal India produced 141 million tonnes during this period, a 9.24% rise, another state coal company SCCL saw its production rise 7% to 12.9 million tonnes, and captive and other mines produced 23.02 million tonnes, up 25.3% on the year.
In February, India's coal and lignite production reached 90.83 million tonnes, up 7.8% year on year yet down 3.2% month on month. Coal production rose 8.9% on the year to 86.62 million tonnes.
Coal India's coal production reached 68.78 million tonnes in February, up 7.08% year on year, SCCL 6.03 million tonnes, flat from a year ago, and captive and other mines 11.81 million tonnes, up 27.7%.
In the first 11 months (April 2022-February 2023) of the current fiscal year ending on March 31, India's coal production (excl. lignite) reached 785 million tonnes, up 15.14% from the same period a year earlier.
Coal India's coal production reached 619.7 million tonnes, up 14.26% on the year; SCCL 60.14 million tonnes, up 2.66%; captive and other mines 105.4 million tonnes, up 30.08%.
India has set the production target of 911 million tonnes for this fiscal, and 86.2% of the target has been achieved by far.
