Ningxia Hui autonomous region in Northwest China is targeting to produce more than 100 million tonnes of coal this year, according to the local official media.
Should this target be achieved, it will become the 7th province in China with annual coal production capacity exceeding 100 million tonnes, after Shaanxi, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Guizhou and Anhui.
Ningxia's coal production climbed up fast from 75 million tonnes in 2018 to 95 million tonnes in 2022, increasing 20 million tonnes in the five years.
Ningxia has planned eight key exploration projects in 2023 to add coal resources and shoulder the supply task assigned by the government.
By the end of the 14th "Five-Year Plan" period (2021-25), the coal capacity is expected to reach 160 million tonnes per annum in Ningxia.
In the next decade, Ningxia will initially launch 34 coal exploration projects and speed up the transfer of mining rights. Meanwhile, modern industrial bases and coal supply & reserve centers will be built in the region, said its natural resources department.
