China's industrial sectors registered a 4.4% year-on-year growth in power consumption to 1,360.2 TWh in the first quarter this year, showed the latest data from the China Electricity Council.
That accounted for 64.2% of China's total power use in the January-March period, with the manufacturing sector taking 47.7% of China's total by using 1,011.3 TWh of electricity, up 3.6% year on year.
The manufacturing sector consumed 385.5 TWh of electricity in March, up 7.4% year on year, accounting for 76.6% of the total power consumption in the industrial sectors, which grew 6.5% year on year to 503.1 TWh in the month.
The four major energy-intensive industries consumed 207 TWh of electricity in March, growing 6.1% year on year, and 565.7 TWh in the first three months, up 4.2% year on year.
Specifically, the chemical industry and ferrous metallurgy industry consumed 47.9 TWh and 56.2 TWh of electricity in March, up 3.9% and 5.0% year on year, while their total power consumption reached 136.5 TWh and 153.4 TWh respectively during the first three months, rising 1.7% and 2.7% year on year.
The non-ferrous metallurgy industry and building materials industry saw power consumption climb by 2.8% and 17.7% year on year to 65.2 TWh and 37.7 TWh respectively in March, and rise 5.9% and 7.5% year on year to 190.2 TWh and 85.6 TWh in the first three months.
China consumed a total 2,120.3 TWh of electricity in the first quarter this year, growing 3.6% year on year, with March's power consumption at 736.9 TWh, up 5.9% year on year.
