Daqin Railway, known as China's No. 1 heavy-duty line, has started a 30-day spring intensive maintenance from April 6, which will make it the longest since the line was opened and also the intensive maintenance with the largest workload in recent years, state media CCTV reported.
As the main channel for China's west-east coal transportation, Daqin line delivers more than 400 million tonnes of coal annually and undertakes the task of ensuring coal supply for more than 380 major power plants and over 6,000 enterprises across the country, according to CCTV.
The coal transportation volume in the first quarter of 2023 reached 105 million tonnes, effectively ensuring the coal demand for heating and power generation in winter.
Daqin railway takes 20 to 25 days every spring to shut down the entire line for 3 hours each day for maintenance in order to restore the performance of the facilities and equipment after the high-load operation during the Spring Festival.
This year's spring intensive maintenance will replace more than 300 kilometers of rails in sections, accounting for about 1/4 of the entire line, and replace 80,352 sleepers in sections, which is more than three times the amount replaced in previous years. The length of the lines that are planned to be fixed and polished both exceeds 1,000 kilometers. As a result, the number of maintenance days was also extended to a record 30 days, according to CCTV.
To ensure that the maintenance will be completed on time and with high quality, 128 construction teams have been arranged for this intensive maintenance, and from 9:00 to 12:00 every day, nearly 20,000 people will start work on the 653-kilometer line at the same time.
During the maintenance, Daqin line targets to deliver 1.02 million tonnes of coal per day on average, according to China Railway Taiyuan Group.
