Northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region delivered 62.74 million tonnes of coal via railway in the first half of 2023, rising 8.5% year on year, local media reported.
The outbound coal shipments rose 13.8% on the year to 26.52 million tonnes.
During this period, Xinjiang produced a total 211.51 million tonnes of coal, rising 16.5% from the year prior, and generated 237.5 TWh of electricity, marking a year-on-year growth of 2.7%, data showed.
Coal reserves in Xinjiang are expected to reach 2.19 trillion tonnes, accounting for 40% of China's total.
To ensure energy security of the country, coal companies in Xinjiang have largely boosted coal production and actively supplied other provinces.
Coal-rich Hami city churned out 69 million tonnes of coal in January-June, up 35% year on year.
