China's Taiwan imported 5.70 million tonnes of coal in July, falling 5.88% year on year and 3.43% month on month, preliminary customs data showed.
The import value for coal in July was $1.05 billion, down 39.42% from a year ago and 9.82% from June. The average import price was calculated at $183.65/t, down 35.63% year on year and 6.61% month on month.
Australia remained the largest source of coal imports to Taiwan in July, totaling 2.55 million tonnes (-6.73% YoY, -17.04% MoM), followed by Indonesia at 1.79 million tonnes (-23.38% YoY, +1.9% MoM) and Russia at 856,600 tonnes (+63.14% YoY, +6.87% MoM).
By type, the bulk of its coal imports was bituminous coal, totaling 4.35 million tonnes, down 4.75% YoY and 4.19% MoM; imports of other coal reached 1.35 million tonnes, dropping 9.49% YoY and 0.69% MoM.
From January to July, Taiwan's total coal imports were 34.68 million tonnes, down 5.79% YoY, while the total import value was $7.78 billion, down 8.83% YoY.
In July, Taiwan imported 15,400 tonnes of coke, falling 55.28% YoY yet rising 11.09% MoM, with the import value at $4.05 million, diving 77.78% YoY and 7.29% MoM. Total coke imports in January-July declined 32.95% year on year to 100,100 tonnes, with value down 53.52% to $36.52 million.
