Safety managers at South32's Illawarra coking coal mines launched a week-long strike after rejecting a new workplace deal that promises to hike their pay by 6.3% this year, according to a report by local newspaper on August 11.
The company also launched a new management, which was criticized for the lack of bonus and work-like balance, and members of the Collieries Staff and Officials Association at South32's Appin mine in New South Wales voted to go on a strike till August 18.
Due to the strike, some operations of the Appin Mine had to cease because of the absence of managers to oversee safety standards, citing a South32 spokesperson.
