China imported 4.42 million tonnes steel products during January-July 2023, a year-on-year slump of 32.6%, according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs on August 8.
The import value came in at $7.51 billion during the first seven months, down 27.4% on the year. The average import price was calculated at $1,699.8/t, up 7.7% year on year.
In July, China imported 678,000 tonnes of steel products, down 14.1% year on year but rising 10.8% month on month.
The total imports were worth $1.09 billion, down 19.8% year on year yet up 6.8% month on month, with the average import price at $1,602.2/t, down 6.7% year on year and 3.6% month on month.
During January-July, China imported 670 million tonnes of iron ore and concentrates, up 6.9% on the year. Import amounts were $76.01 billion, down 5.2% from the preceding year, with the average import price at $113.5/t, which was down 11.3% from a year ago.
In July, China imported 93.48 million tonnes of iron ore and concentrates, rising 2.4% year on year but sliding 2.1% month on month. Imports were worth $9.81 billion, 14.9% lower than a year earlier and down 3.8% month on month. Import price was down 17.0% on the year and 1.7% on the month to $104.9/t.
