State-owned power plants, coal firms and power grid enterprises are being urged to take the lead in ensuring electricity supply during peak summer period, according to an announcement on the website of China's state asset regulator on July 3.
Maximum power load in China is forecast to reach 1.37 TW in the summer of 2023, up 6.5% from a year earlier, showed data from a report released by China's state grid energy research institute in April. The report predicted a tight electricity supply and demand this year.
The authority also stated it is vital to increase investment in power projects and scientific and technological innovation and accelerate the construction of new power systems, in order to deal with the extreme weather and possible power supply shortage.
