Central China's Hubei province consumed 20.56 TWh of electricity in May, up 3.52% from the year-ago level, showed data from the Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
In May, power consumption of the primary industries, mainly the agricultural sector, was 321 GWh, up 18.43% year on year; that of the secondary industries, mainly the industrial sector, totaled 12.81 TWh, down 1.69% on the year.
The tertiary industries, mainly the service sector, consumed 4.26 TWh of electricity, rising 16.17% year on year. The residential power consumption was 3.17 TWh, up 9.59% from the previous year.
The industrial power consumption dipped 1.72% on the year to 12.55 TWh, with manufacturing industry consuming 9.59 TWh, down 3.84%.
Hubei generated a total 24.5 TWh of electricity in May, down 14.24% from the year-ago level.
Three Gorges dam, China's largest state-owned hydropower plant, generated 5.93 TWh, slumping 52.76% year on year.
Power generation of other companies rose by 15.98% from the preceding year to 18.57 TWh in May, of which, hydropower plants generated 3.99 TWh, falling 37.31% year on year. Thermal power generation was 10.97 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 54.23%.
In the first five months of the year, the province's total power consumption and generation achieved 101.89 TWh (+0.61% YoY) and 115.81 TWh (-6.11% YoY) respectively.
Power usage by industrial industries fell 1.76% on the year to 59.76 TWh during January-May, and manufacturing industries utilized 45.03 TWh, down 2.3%.
