Electricity consumption in Central China's Henan province rose 4.87% from a year earlier to 31.25 TWh in March, according to the National Energy Administration's Henan office.
Total power use in the first quarter climbed 3.81% to 97.11 TWh.
The primary industries – mainly the agricultural sector – used 0.61 TWh in March, up 33.16% on the year. The secondary industries – mainly the industrial sector – consumed 19.29 TWh, up 1.19%. The tertiary industries, mainly the service sector, used 6.05 TWh, up 3.84%. Residential power demand rose 19.09% to 5.3 TWh.
Specifically, industrial power consumption gained 1.34% to 18.93 TWh, with consumption for manufacturing at 13.72 TWh, up 0.26%.
Non-ferrous metal producers used 3.41 TWh of power in the month, down 4.61% year on year. Ferrous metal producers used 1.29 TWh, down 1.86%. Chemical producers used 1.48 TWh, down 1.32%.
Power generation in the province rose 4.35% on the year to 26 TWh in March, bringing the total generation in the first quarter to 81.85 TWh, up 2.06%.
Hydropower generation fell 38.81% to 1.06 TWh. Thermal power output rose 1.96% to 18.32 TWh. Wind power gained 0.79% to 3.95 TWh. Solar power surged 103.99% to 2.69 TWh.
Average utilization time of power generators in the province fell 53 hours year-on-year to 670 hours by the end of March. Hydropower utilization fell 442 hours to 575 hours. Thermal power utilization fell 31 hours to 856 hours. Wind power utilization rose 103 hours to 565 hours. Solar power utilization gained 32 hours to 238 hours. Average utilization hours of unified-dispatched thermal power units fell 431 hours to 589 hours.
Installed power capacity in Henan rose 12.26 GW year on year to 123.61 GW by the end of March. Hydropower made up 3.55% at 4.39 GW. Thermal power accounted for 59.11% at 73.06 GW. Wind power was 15.66% at 19.36 GW. Solar power represented 21.54% at 26.62 GW.
