China's steel products imports were registered at 2.5 million tonnes during January-April 2023, a year-on-year slump of 40.1%, according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs on May 9.
The import amount came in at $4.31 billion during the first four months, down 31.4% on the year. The average import price was calculated at $1,726.3/t, up 14.5% year on year.
In April, China imported 585,000 tonnes of steel products, down 38.8% year on year and 14.2% month on month.
The total imports were worth $1.04 billion, down 31.2% year on year and 8.7% month on month, with the average import price at $1,768.5/t, up 12.4% year on year and 6.5% month on month.
During the first four months, China imported 380 million tonnes of iron ore and concentrates, up 8.6% year on year. Import amounts were $43.76 billion, down 4% year on year, with the average import price at $113.7/t, which was down 11.6% from a year ago.
In April, China imported 90.44 million tonnes of iron ore and concentrates, up 5.1% year on year but down 9.8% month on month. Imports were worth $10.9 billion, 5.8% lower from a year ago and 7.6% month on month. Import price was down 10.1% on the year but up 2.4% on the month to $120.5/t.
