Vietnam's coal production rose for the second straight month in March yet was slightly lower compared with the year-ago level, official data showed.
The country produced 4.60 million tonnes of coal in March, down 4.09% year on year but rising 19.84% month on month, showed data from the country's General Statistics Office.
In January-March, the country produced a total 11.69 million tonnes of coal, inching up 0.49% from 11.74 million tonnes from a year ago.
April's production is expected to reach 4.96 million tonnes, down 7.28% on the year but rising 7.79% on the month, bringing the expected production during the first four months to 16.65 million tonnes, which is still 2.62% lower than the same period in 2022.
The bulk of coal production in Vietnam is supplied for power generation, cement making and other industrial use.
