Indonesia's coal exports in March posted over 20% year-on-year and month-on-month growths, to a new high since January 2018, Kpler's cargo-tracking data showed.
In March, Indonesia exported 48.72 million tonnes of coal, up 22.37% year on year and 26.07% month on month, the data showed.
This brought the total exports to 124 million tonnes in the first three months of this year, up 54.53% from a year ago.
Asian countries were the major destination of Indonesia's coal exports in March, receiving 46.15 million tonnes, up 18.83% year on year, accounting for 94.7% of its total monthly exports.
By destination country, Indonesia exported most coal to China in March, with the volume at 23.51 million tonnes, up 60.1% year on year and 52.47% month on month. The shipments represented 48.26% of Indonesia's total exports that month.
Shipments to India totaled 8.67 million tonnes, down 8.74% year on year but up 17.22% month on month; 2.89 million tonnes were shipped to the Philippines, up 21.81% year on year and 18.91% month on month.
Also, Indonesia exported 2.27 million tonnes of coal to South Korea, up 15.24% YoY but down 6.98% MoM, and 1.86 million tonnes to Malaysia, down 18.92% YoY but up 12.94% MoM.
By product, the majority of March's coal exports were thermal coal, accounting for 99% of the total, at 49 million tonnes, up 22.79% YoY and 26.28% MoM.
