China's coal-dedicated Daqin railway is expected to start 30-day regular spring maintenance from April 6 to May 5, according to market sources.
During the maintenance period, operations on the railway will halt for three to five hours every morning, mining sources told Sxcoal, citing notice from the CR Taiyuan Group.
Daqin railway connects China's No.1 coal-producing province Shanxi to the largest coal transshipment port of Qinhuangdao in northern China's Hebei province, and its branch lines also connect other two major production areas of Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi.
Although the rail line operator normally adjusts its working hours to mitigate the impact on coal transportation, coal-handling volume on the line during the maintenance period would decline to some extent, which is likely to slow the coal flows to northern ports and shore up prices.
Daqin railway's daily coal shipment averaged 1.03 million tonnes during the spring maintance period May 1-20 in 2022, and the daily figure recovered soon to around 1.23 million tonnes in the following 20 days after the maintaince, , Sxcoal's data showed.
Daqin ordered a 25-day spring maintenance during April 3-30 in 2021, and its daily shipments came in at 1.01 million tonnes over the period, compared with 1.19 million tonnes in the following 25 days after the maintenance, data showed.
