Northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region had delivered 60.50 million tonnes of coal via railway in the year to June 22, rising 9.2% year on year, local media reported.
During this period, outbound coal shipments surged 15.8% on the year to 25.76 million tonnes, Xinjiang Daily reported.
As Xinjiang's economy continues to improve, the demand for transportation of coal, cotton, chemical fertilizers, metal ores and other materials has been strong since the start of the year, according to the report.
As of June 22, Xinjiang's rail freight volume exceeded 100 million tonnes six days earlier than last year, reaching 100.1 million tonnes, marking a year-on-year increase of 3.2%.
While ensuring coal transportation, the Xinjiang railway authority has allocated resources and increased transportation capacity around key materials such as spring plowing preparation materials and cotton yarn.
Xinjiang's railway have shipped a total 3.446 million tonnes of agricultural materials including chemical fertilizers, seeds, and agricultural machinery and tools for spring farming during the period, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%.
