Coal exports from Australia's Newcastle port continued to decline in April and hit a new low for the same month since at least 2019.
The port exported 11.18 million tonnes of coal in April, down 4.95% year on year and 2.69% from the previous month, data from Port of Newcastle showed.
The exports amounted to A$3.364 billion ($2.22 billion), down 30.07% year on year but rebounding 1.11% month on month. The average export price was thereby calculated at A$300.8/t ($200.4/t), down 26.43% from a year earlier yet rising 3.91% from the previous month.
From January to April this year, Newcastle exported a total of 43.02 million tonnes of coal, down 8.71% year on year; the cumulative value was $14.63 billion, down 7.96% year on year.
In April, the number of coal ships loaded at Newcastle port was 120, down 9 from the previous month. The cumulative number of coal ships loaded from January to April was 484.
