Northwestern China's Shaanxi province extracted 306.80 million tonnes of coal in January-May, up 1.1% year on year, showed data from local statistics bureau.
In May alone, production in the province dropped 2.2% on the year to 63.41 million tonnes, the data showed.
Power generation of the province totaled 114.77 TWh in the first five months, up 5.5% from the previous year. Of this, power generation in May stood at 21.19 TWh, a 3.7% increase year on year.
Power consumption of the province from January to May totaled 96.91 TWh, up 3.3% year on year.
In the non-residential sector, power consumption in primary industries, predominantly the agricultural sector, increased by 2.3% compared to the previous year. Power consumption in secondary industries, primarily the industrial sector, saw a modest growth of 0.7%. However, the tertiary industries, mainly the service sector, experienced a significant surge in power consumption, rising by 12.2%.
Meanwhile, residential power consumption witnessed a notable increase of 4.4% during the same period.
