Mongolia's Prime Minister, Oyun-Erdene, expressed the need to achieve railway alignment between border ports at the earliest opportunity during his visit to China's top coal mining group China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy) on June 28.
The discussions with CHN Energy's Chairman Liu Guoyue focused on promoting energy and infrastructure cooperation between Mongolia and China.
Oyun-Erdene emphasized the importance of consensus-building, future-oriented development, and mutual connectivity between China and Mongolia. Under the guidance of the "New Revival Policy", the current Mongolian government aims to accelerate cross-border railway and port connectivity, with the goal of achieving railway alignment between the two countries' border ports as soon as possible. He expressed the hope that both sides would enhance mutual trust and facilitate faster and better bilateral cooperation.
According to Mongolian media reports, during the meeting, the two sides engaged in candid discussions regarding the initiation of the construction of the Gashuun Sukhait-Ganqimaodu cross-border railway. The project, which had been put on hold for over a decade, was agreed upon during Prime Minister's visit to China in February 2022.
At the meeting, both parties agreed to commence the construction of the Gashuun Sukhait-Ganqimaodu cross-border railway in 2023, with plans for it to become operational in 2024.
