Global crude steel production fell 5.1% from a year ago to 162 million tonnes in May, showed data from the World Steel Association (WSA).
In May, the top ten crude steel producers were China, India, Japan, the U.S., Russia, South Korea, Germany, Brazil, Turkey and Iran.
China produced 90.1 million tonnes of crude steel in the month, down 7.3% year on year, and India's output rose 4.1% year on year to 11.2 million tonnes.
Japan saw a year-on-year fall of 5.2% in its crude steel production to 7.6 million tonnes in May. The output of the U.S. decreased by 2.3% on the year to 6.9 million tonnes.
In the month, crude steel output in Russia was estimated to increase 8.8% from a year ago to 6.8 million tonnes. Crude steel output of South Korea dipped 0.1% from the previous year to 5.8 million tonnes, while that of Germany ticked up 0.2% to 3.2 million tonnes, data showed.
Crude steel production in Brazil decreased 5.5% year on year to 2.8 million tonnes, and that of Turkey declined 10.4% to 2.9 million tonnes, while that of Iran climbed 8.8% on the year to 3.3 million tonnes.
In January-May, crude steel output worldwide decreased 1.2% to 786 million tonnes.
