China's power generation of all sources totaled 688.6 TWh in May, a 5.6% rise from a year earlier, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on June 15.
The year-on-year growth decreased by 0.5 percentage point compared with that of April. Daily power generation averaged 22.21 TWh in May.
The output of thermal power, mostly coal-fired, totaled 471.2 TWh in May, up 15.9% year on year; hydropower declined 32.9% to 82 TWh; wind power 74.4 TWh, up 15.3%; nuclear power 36.9 TWh, up 6.3%; solar power 24.1 TWh, up 0.1%, the NBS data showed.
During January-May, China's power generation totaled 3,421.6 TWh, a 3.9% rise from 2022.
Thermal power generation totaled 2,420.6 TWh in the first five months, up 6.2% year on year; hydropower declined 19.2% to 352.3 TWh; wind power climbed 18.4% to 366.3 TWh; nuclear rose 5% to 174.7 TWh; and solar rose 5.7% to 107.7 TWh.
